Craps Unfortunate Name Great Game Through

Craps is most definitely an American stalwart when it comes to casino games. The game has its roots in a very old English dice game called Hazard. Some believe the name ‘craps’ comes from the old name for rolling ‘snake eyes’ it was called crabs and this got turned into craps. Whatever the reason craps is most assuredly American. The game conjures up images of back alleys with huddled players and fists full of dollars, chucking dice up against a wall. Or perhaps crowded casinos with loud onlookers cheering on the thrower. Many classic American films have scenes where craps are played. What is this game all about, it looks complicated and when you see the betting table you realise you have no clue on how to play it. It is easier than it first looks but it is a multi-layered game and it all depends on what is thrown first.

Like All Great Casino Games You Want To Beat The Bank

In a live casino you can bet on what the thrower is going to hit the dice get passed along when they lose. In an online casino obviously the dice are rolled virtually. The object of the game is to throw a 7 or an 11 in the first initial throw of the dice. If this happens then an outright win is declared bet are paid and it’s on to the next throw. If 2 ‘snake eyes’, three or 12 is thrown then that is an instant loss. When any other number is thrown then that number becomes the ‘point’ number.
As we said earlier craps is a multilayered game. If a point number is thrown on the first throw (come out roll) then there will be another round of throws. Throw a 7, 11, 2, 3, or 12 and that game ends bets are paid and it onwards we go. The point number establishes the parameters for the subsequent throws. The dice is then rolled until either the point number is rolled again or a 7 comes. If the point number comes the bets made on it are paid and it’s the next game. If the 7 comes then those that ‘lay the odds’ get paid and all others lose.

Betting Doesn’t Seem That Simple – When You Look At The Table

There are rather a lot of different bets in craps and it can get a bit confusing as not all online casinos follow the same rules. But here are the standard ones you do need to check with individual casinos to know what’s what. The betting table interface is much the same as roulette click on the chip and place it on the bet you want.
craps tablePass And Don’t Pass
The most common bet and the simplest to understand is the Pass Line and the Don’t Pass. Both pay out even money. Most casinos will make you bet one or the other if you want to make any other bet as well. They are basically the minimum bet allowed. The Pass Line bet pays out if the come out roll is 7 or 11. It is a lost bet if it is 2, 3, or 12. If a point is established by any other number being rolled the stake stays on the table until the point is rolled then it is paid as a win. If a 7 comes before the point then the bet is lost. The Don’t Pass is won if a 2 or 3 is rolled and lost if a 7 or 11 comes. If a 12 is rolled it is a push and the stake stays on the table. If a point is established then the bet is lost if the point is rolled and wins if a 7 is rolled.
Come And Don’t Come
The bets are so similar to the Pass Don’t Pass that a lot get confused but take the time to understand them and they are a good side bet. The one overriding difference is that come bet is placed after the point is established. Then it works like this if after you place the come bet the next roll is 7 or 11 then you win. If it is 2, 3 or 12 then you lose. Any other number that is rolled becomes your point on your come wager. So for example the come out roll is 6 this is the point. You then place a come bet the next roll is a 5 this is the point for your come bet. You win if the 5 comes and lose if the 7 comes. The don’t come is placed after the point is established and will lose if the next throw is 7 or 11 and win if 2 or 3. The other numbers would become the point. The win is on a 7 the loss is if the point comes. These are even money payout.
Odds Bets More Side Bets Post Point
Think of these as add-ons to the previous bets. Once the point has been established these bets can be made Pass Line Odds, Don’t Pass Odds, Come Odds, Don’t Come Odds. These bets are where the real money can be won. They are placed to augment your other bets.
Pass Line Odds
So if you have made a Pass Line bet you can place the Odds Bet after the point is established this would boost your original bet. This bet is paid at true odds so here is no house edge which is fantastic! This is known as ‘taking the odds’ There will always be a limit on how much you can stake usually three times the origin Pass Line stake. The odds are as follows: 4 or 10 pays 2/1 5 or 9 pays 3/2 and a 6 or 8 pays 6/5.
Don’t Pass Odds
This works the other way if you have placed a Don’t Pass bet. You get paid if a 7 is rolled and lose if the point comes. Again these are true odds bets with no house edge. These bets are known as ‘laying the odds’ you basically reverse the odds so if the point is a 6 or 8 the payout is 5/6 if the 7 comes. Come Odds and Don’t Come Odds work the same just using the point after the Come Don’t Come bet. Again s these are true odds bets with no house edge there will be a limit on the stake.
craps gamePlace Win
Made after the come out roll. Lay the bet on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 if the number is rolled before a 7 then win. 6 or 8 pays 7/6, 5 or 9 pays 7/5, 4 or 10 pays 9/5.
Place Lose
The opposite basically choose a number and if a 7 comes before your chosen number you win. 6 or 8 pays 4/5, 5 or 9 pays 5/8, 4 or 10 pays 5/11.
Buy And Lay Bets
These are basically the same as Place Win and Place lose. The difference is they have better payouts but you pay a house commission. This are not so common in online casinos but are worth mentioning. Make a point of looking into whether the casino has this option. 6 or 8 pays 5/6, 5 or 9 pays 2/3, 4 or 10 pays ½. The commission is 5% either on the stake or sometimes the win.
Big 6 And Big 8
Both these bets are simple. Big 6 is a win if the 6 comes before a 7 and the Big 8 is on an 8 before the 7. Both pay evens.
Hardways
When you hit a number via a double this is called making it the hard way. Hard 6 is two threes for example. This bet again is straightforward bet on the hard number 4, 6, 8 or 10 and if it comes before a 7 you win. 4 or 10 pays 7/1 6 or 8 pays 9/1.
Field
The field bet is settled on the next roll. The win comes if 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 or 12 is rolled. A loss if 5, 6, 7 or 8 is rolled. It pays evens unless a 2 or 12 comes then it is 2/1.
Props
Props bets are for the higher risk gamblers. Again these may or may not be available at some online casinos so check first. These bets have a higher payout but also a much higher house edge. These bets are very high risk and you are likely to lose. These are bets made on the next roll

Online Craps will vary greatly from one casino to the next. The basic structure of the game will stay the same but the side bets will be different. The payouts for each bet will be a big factor in how you choose where to play. Once you have grasped the different ways to bet Craps is a lot of fun. Your money can go a long way in this game as one game can take some time.
